Mary Jordan Askew, formerly of Kinston, NC, passed away of natural causes on January 11, 2026, at the age of 100. She had been residing at Golden Age Nursing Home in Greenwood, MS.
Born and raised in Kinston, Mary graduated from the Flora MacDonald Conservatory of Music, where she studied voice and choral directing. In 1948, she married Ramon Hugh Askew, Jr., and together they shared 45 years of marriage and raised four children.
Mary was a woman of deep and abiding faith whose kindness, encouragement, and steadfast spirit touched the lives of countless people. She will be remembered for her devotion to the United Methodist Church, her lifelong commitment to service, and her many musical contributions that enriched her community.
She is survived by her four children—Ramon Hugh Askew III, Gay Askew Crabb, Helen Askew Sanders, and John Carson Askew—along with five grandchildren, seven great‑grandchildren, and one great‑great‑granddaughter.
Her legacy of faith, Music and love will continue to resonate through the generations she leaves behind.
A private graveside service is planned for Sunday, January 18, 2026.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to one's favorite charity in her name, Mary Askew.
