Mary Beaman Obituary

Mary Alice Hill Beaman, 88, of Kinston, passed away on May 1, 2021 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. A lifelong resident of Kinston, Mary Alice grew up in east Kinston and graduated from Grainger High School. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ada Sumrell and Robert Ashley Bradshaw; an infant son; son, Steven Hill; her husband of 35 years, Edward G. “Buddy” Hill, Jr.; and her second husband, Bobby Ray Beaman. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Robert Bradshaw, Cecil Bradshaw, Herbert Bradshaw, and Jim Bradshaw, and sisters, Doris Bradshaw Henderson and Martha Bradshaw Haab.

Mary Alice was a bookkeeper at WFTC/WRNS radio station for many years. She also held the same position at Arendell Parrott Academy until she retired. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church and served her Lord faithfully. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed the company of her teammates. After retirement, she volunteered as a Pink Lady in the Cheer Corner at LMH, as well as delivered meals for Meals on Wheels. She lovingly supported and enjoyed her grandsons in their school and community activities.

Mary Alice loved her family dearly and is survived by her son, Mark Hill and wife, Stephanie Hill, of Kinston, NC; grandsons, Steven Hill and wife, Catherine, and precious great-granddaughter, Eliza, of Raleigh, NC, and Evan Hill and wife, Gray, of Richmond, VA. She is also survived by her sisters, Hazel Marie Sult and Eleanor “Lady” Baker, and sisters-in-law, Lew Bradshaw and Leatrice Bradshaw, along with many special nieces, nephews, and friends.

A visitation will take place at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church on Friday, May 7, 2021. A funeral service, with Pastor Jon Hoover officiating, will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow the service at Westview Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Kindred Home Health and Community Hospice for their wonderful care. A special thank you is extended to Penny Edgeston and her loving caregivers who comforted Mary Alice in her final weeks before she transitioned to her heavenly home.
