Mavis Elaine Taylor

Mavis Elaine Avery Taylor, 88, of Kinston, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023 at Kitty Askins Hospice, Goldsboro, NC.   She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Floyd Taylor, Jr.; parents, Harold and Hazel Lanier Avery; sister, Marilyn Owens, and brothers, Billy Avery and Edward Avery.

Mavis worked as an administrative assistant at Lenoir Memorial Hospital for over 40 years and was a member of Kinston First Free Will Baptist Church. She was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking, Tar Heel basketball, trips to Vegas with her dear friends, and playing her piano during the holidays. She loved her family deeply and her grandchildren were the apple of her eye.

She is survived by her sons, Robert Harold Taylor and wife, Sonja, of Richmond, VA and Thomas Michael Taylor of Chapel Hill, NC; grandchildren, Robert Colton Taylor, Logan Elizabeth Taylor, Brian Thomas Taylor, and Elaine Dorothea Taylor; several special nieces and nephews whom she loved, and many other close family members and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at Spring Arbor, Harmony Hall, and Kitty Askins Hospice Center for their loving care of Mavis over the years.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 15, 2023 at Westview Cemetery.
