Michael Schaffer Obituary

Michael Jonathan Schaffer, 69, of Pikeville, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. He was born on February 10, 1957, to the late John and Shirley Schaffer.

Michael was a devoted family man and person of deep faith.

He was known by all who met him as a very good man with a kind heart and a strong love for his family. His son, Christian, was the light of his life, and he took great pride in every moment they shared together. He cherished time spent with his loved ones, especially during family meals and weekly card games that brought laughter and lasting memories.

Michael enjoyed the outdoors and found happiness in simple pleasures. He loved hunting deer, fishing at the ocean, and working in his yard. Gardening was one of his favorite pastimes, and he took pride in growing vegetables to share with family and friends. These activities reflected his hardworking spirit and appreciation for nature.

Above all, he was a man of faith whose beliefs guided his life and relationships. He will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and unwavering dedication to those he loved.

He leaves behind his beloved family and friends, who will continue to honor his memory and carry his legacy forward. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Kimberly Schaffer.

Michael is survived by his wife; of the home, Ellen Jenkins, son; Christian Schaffer of VA., granddaughter; Harley Ramsey Gonzalez and husband Oscar, great-grandson; Carter, brothers; Jim Schaffer and wife Amy of VA., Johnny Schaffer and Alex of VA, David Schaffer of VA, and Scott Schaffer and wife Brenda of MI, sister, Cyndi Moytoa of CA, mother in-law; Naomi Jenkins of Kinston, several cherished and beloved friends, best friend, Tim Moore, whom Michael adopted as a brother and wife Debbie and their daughters Shelvie and Jessie who he called his nieces and Shelvie’s children, Sierra, Soliana, and KJ who loved his Uncle Mikey like none other.

Memorial Service will be held on Monday, February 16, at 2:00, at Howard-Carter Funeral Home, with Reverend Emmett Jenkins and Reverend Charles Heath officiating.
