Myrtle (Smith) Smeraldo

Myrtle Smith Smeraldo, 95, of Dover passed away Friday, December 4, 2020 at UNC Lenoir Healthcare.  She was born July 4, 1925 in Creswell, NC to Lola and Charles Smith and raised in Norfolk, VA.  As a toddler, she developed polio; however, that never slowed her down.  She was married to a navy man and her travels with him took her to California and Washington.   She was blessed to be able to raise two children.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother.

 

Myrtle was predeceased by her husband, George William Smeraldo ; parents; son, Robert Smeraldo; sister, Ruth Funk; brothers, Marvin Smith and Charles Smith.

 

She is survived by her daughter, Peggy S. Smith and husband Philip  of Dover, NC; grandchildren, Rebecca Harris (Ben), Pink Hill, NC, Annette Baines (Jack), Chesapeake, VA, Todd Smith (Teresa), Greenville, SC, Ronda Cecil (James), Goldsboro, NC, Robert Smeraldo (Beth), Lamonte, MO; great- grandchildren, Christopher Howard (Sarah), Jonthan Baines (Janie), Caleb Baines (Missy), Matthew Baines (Maddie), Victoria Smith, Cameron Smith (Emily), Hunter Smith (Jannie), Philip Cecil (Emily), Nathan Cecil (Arel), David Cecil, Andrew Vansel, Josiah Vansel, Micah Vansel, Hayden Smeraldo; great-great-grandchildren, Bryden Howard, Brooks Howard, Axel Cecil, Shepard Baines, Kenlee Baines, Rhet Baines, Palmer Baines; sister, Lois Harris of Chesapeak, VA.

 

Private graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 11, 2020 at Westview Cemetery with Pastor Cody Mansfield officiating. 

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tabernacle FWB Church for the Children Home Harvest Ministry, 1003 W. New Bern Rd., Kinston, NC.
