Nancy Lee Smith, 84, of Kinston, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at her home on Wednesday, December 1, 2021.
Nancy was born in Winona, Minnesota. Later she moved to Alabama with her parents Art and Marion Squires. She met and married Dee Smith, who was stationed in Fort Deposit, Alabama. Together they built several businesses. S and J Realty and Construction, which built several housing subdivisions and apartment complexes in Lenoir County. Together they built Dee's restaurant, which she helped manage. Miss Nancy was best known for starting Falling Creek Day Care, where several generations of children attended.
She is survived by her children, Patsi Tart, Cathy Gray and husband, Ronnie, and Danny Smith and wife, Myra; daughter-in-law, Pam Leavy; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren, and a brother Arthur Chip Squires. She is preceded in death by her husband Dee Smith; son, Andy Smith; son-in-law, Edwin Tart, and sister-in-law, Linda Squires.
Graveside services will be held at Westview Cemetery on Friday, December 3, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Emeritus Ron Fletcher and Pastor David Cauley officiating.
Miss Nancy was always passionate about her love for animals, and adopted several pets throughout the years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lenoir County SPCA, 2455 Rouse Road, Kinston, North Carolina 28504.
