Nathan Franklin McDaniel

Nathan Franklin McDaniel, 88, passed away to his heavenly home on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 from a short illness.

He was born on March 11, 1934 to Willard and Helen Griffin McDaniel. He worked most of his life in construction, beginning under the apprenticeship of his uncle, Leslie Taylor. He began working for Northhills, Inc. early in his career building homes, shopping centers, and care facilities. As superintendent of construction, he was instrumental in building the New River Shopping Center and numerous homes in Jacksonville, NC. He also built three beach homes in Surf City, North Topsail, and Sneads Ferry to enjoy with his wife, friends, and family.

Nathan, known as “Pee Wee” to his friends, was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Berta Herndon, Ernestine Sach, and Eunice Hicks; and his dogs, Charlie and Hunter.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Taylor McDaniel; beloved cats, Zada, Meg, and Pepper; brother, Eugene McDaniel (Dorothy); sisters, Ann Wetherington (Lindy), Glenda Oliver (Larry), and Barbara Tribula (Michael), and many close nieces, nephews, and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Howard-Carter Funeral Home. Visitation will be after the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Onslow County SPCA.
