Nellie Jane Pate

Mrs. Nellie Jane Pate, 84, passed away on Monday afternoon, October 21, 2024 after a long bout of cancer. 

Mrs. Pate was a native of Kinston, NC and spent many years of her life on Spence Family Lane.  She worked at Dupont until she retired.  She was a collector of many things including pictures of her grandbabies, QVC special items, clocks, Elvis Pressley memorabilia, and more.  Her favorite color was yellow, and she always looked forward to having the grandbabies over for dinner for a night away from their parents.  She always let them watch whatever they wanted: cartoons or sports!

She is survived by three of her sons, Bobby, Jeffery and Tony Potter; her sister Margaret Spence; her grandchildren Josh, Justin and wife Nicole Potter, and Jamie and wife Holly Potter, Adam, PJ, and Joey Potter; Nieces Kim and Michelle; her nephew Eddie Spence; and too many great children to list!

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Robert Spence and Ethelene Craft Spence; a brother, Clarence Potter; sons Michael and Robert Potter; and her husband Robert Earl Pate, “Petey”. 

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 28th, at 11:00am at Howard-Carter Funeral Home in Kinston, NC.  The burial will be at Pinelawn Cemetery after the service.  Following the burial, family will be available briefly to receive friends.
