On November 16 and 17 of 2022, Heaven received two life-long friends who were inseparable in life and now also in death.

Thelma “Shorty” Leora Carraway-Hill, 79, of Kinston, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 16, 2022.  She proudly served her country in the U.S. Army and worked for the U.S. Department of Labor for more than 25 years. 

She is survived by her sister, Jewel Dunn (Bobby); nieces and nephews, Randall Dunn (Margie), Derreck Williams (Katherine), Edward Williams, Brian Dunn (Wanda), Santana Cornett (Matt), Douglas Williams, Samuel Williams, and Carter Dunn; and cousins Brenda Harrell and Hope Turnbull.

She was preceded in death by parents, Ralph Edward and Bonner Mae Carraway; sister Jean Williams; and niece Sonya Williams.

Rebecca “Becky” Lee Miller, 76, of Kinston, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 17, 2022.  She was born in Randolph County, West Virginia in 1946 and also worked for the U.S. Department of Labor for more than 25 years.

She is survived by her Aunt, Nola DeVilder, several cousins, and by the family of Shorty Hill who adopted her as their own.

She was preceded in death by parents, Ralph Lee and Ruth Rebecca Miller; sisters Roeda Miller and Nancy Miller.

Both were faithful members of Spilman Memorial Baptist Church where Shorty served as a Deacon.  The two enjoyed spending time on the golf course, building models and Lego sets, and most of all loved spoiling their two dogs Harley and Murphy.

Combined funeral services will be at 12pm Monday, November 28th at Spilman Memorial Baptist Church with Senior Pastor Dr. H. Powell Dew, Jr. officiating.  The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church.  They will both be laid to rest at Pinelawn Memorial Park, with Shorty receiving military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Shorty and Becky’s name to Spilman Memorial Baptist Church, 601 Madison Ave., Kinston, NC 28501.
