Roger Lee Carter Jr. , 82, of Kinston NC passed away on July 26 , 2024. Born in Kinston NC, on March 29, 1942.
Dad was a man of great ambition, resolve, and determination. Growing up, he began working in his father’s cafe, a local staple of the Kinston community. He later served in the Vietnam war as a Combat Engineer. Dad started and grew many businesses throughout his career, including the Roger Carter corporation. His ambition, drive and innovation coupled with teamwork lead his business from leasing to manufacturing of mobile office buildings. He cared deeply for those he worked with, ensuring people from all backgrounds had the proper tools to succeed. It’s something we will always admire about him. It was those beliefs that allowed him to grow his businesses and provide employment in his community for over 30 years.
Dad loved to talk and tell stories with his friends and family, or anyone willing to listen. He could always bring a smile to your face with his sometimes outrageous comments. He loved fishing. Whether the boat or the fish were big or small, the time spent was larger than life. And if you asked dad, the fish were too.
Dad was also a dedicated fisher of men. Spending much of his time leading people to the Lord and growing churches anyway he could. He would bus people to church that didn’t have means of transportation so everyone had the opportunity to worship together.
Dad believed in all those around him and he would never leave a person short on confidence. That is something that made a mark on all of those he touched. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need in our community. We can’t count the number of people we’ve met throughout our lives that have told us of a kindness that dad provided to them or their families and what it meant to them.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Baker Carter of Kinston, daughter Debbie Andrews of Kinston. His sons Cray Carter of Raleigh, Jordan and wife Erica Carter of Texas. He had 3 grandchildren Adriane Andrews Greene, Tyler Andrews, and Alex Carter. He had 2 great grandchildren, Jason and Bailey Andrews. He had many friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday July 30, 2024 at Jackson Heights Free Will Baptist Church. Visitation starts at 12:00 followed by the service at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow the service at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
