Tessie Turner Lipscomb, 91, of Kinston, passed away at home on Friday, April 10, 2026. She was a devoted wife, mother, and friend.
Tessie’s life was centered around her family, whom she cherished deeply. She found great joy in caring for those she loved and creating lasting memories together. She was a faithful member of Southwood Memorial Christian Church, where she especially enjoyed quilting with the ladies of the church, forming meaningful friendships and sharing her talents.
She dedicated over 20 years of service working in the cafeteria at South Lenoir High School, where she became a familiar and beloved presence to students and staff alike. Her kindness and warm spirit touched many lives throughout her years there.
Tessie found happiness in the simple pleasures of life, including fishing and spending time at the beach. Tessie also loved traveling with her husband, John, especially to the Tennessee mountains and Pigeon Forge, places that brought her much joy.
She loved her fur baby and companion “Nikki”, whom she spent much time with. Tessie had a passion for cooking and took great pride in preparing meals that brought everyone together. One of her most cherished traditions was her birthday celebrations, where family and community would gather for a pig picking to honor her special day-an event filled with laughter, love, and togetherness.
Tessie will be remembered for her generous heart, her strong faith, and the joy she brought to everyone around her. She leaves behind a lifetime of beautiful memories that will be held close by all who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John Lipscomb and parents, Sam and Julia Turner.
She is survived by her son, Terry Lipscomb and wife Tammy of Kinston, brother, Frank Turner and wife Weenonah of Kinston, and fur baby “Nikki”.
The family would like to extend a special Thank You to her special family friends, Will Moore, Victoria Letchworth, Charles and Rose Daniels and to her church family, for always being there and helping to take care of Mrs. Tessie during the difficult times.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at Pinelawn Memorial Park with Pastor Rick Vernon officiating.
