Tommie Junior Byrd

Tommie Junior Byrd, 94, of La Grange, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro. He was preceded in death by his parents, Toby and Agnes Aldridge Byrd, and sons, Thomas Byrd, Jr. and Tommie Ray Byrd.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a friend to many. He loved hunting, fishing, dancing, and working in his garden. He enjoyed tinkering with machinery and was a jack of all trades. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and will be greatly missed.

Tommie is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Byrd, of the home; daughters, Ruthie Carter and husband, Ransome of Kinston, Joanne Goff of Kinston, Marie Turnage and husband, Jeff Sr. of Kinston, sons; Chris Byrd and wife Donna of Kinston,  Dale Smith of Greer, SC, daughters; Tina Everhart and husband, Donald of Goldsboro, and Vonnie Smith of Seymour, TN;  brother, Clifton Brown and wife, Shirley of Pink Hill, along with many other family members and friends.

Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Howard-Carter Funeral Home on Friday, December 22, 2023. Funeral service will begin at 12:00 p.m. with Minister Lennie Reagan officiating. Burial will follow the service at Howard Cemetery in Pink Hill.
