Valerie Lorene (Tompkins) Sanderson

Valerie Lorene Tompkins Sanderson, 72, of Kinston, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2024 at UNC Lenoir, Kinston, NC.  She was predeceased by her parents, Harold Tompkins and Marie Madeline McAdam Tompkins, stepfather, Carroll Whitehurst and sisters, Louise Bulmer and Eileen Davenport.

Valerie worked as a unit secretary at UNC Lenoir.  She enjoyed cooking and hosting family, as well as spending time with her grandchildren.  She was a wonderful mother and grandmother.  She loved hummingbirds, butterflies and enjoyed a good book.

She is survived by her husband, Walter F. Sanderson; daughters, Karol Sanderson and Jennifer Sanderson; sons Adam Sanderson and wife Jennie and Randy Sanderson and wife, Natishia; grandchildren, Christina Sanderson, Aiden Sanderson and Isabella Sanderson and sisters, Gloria Darrah, Shelly Bradbury and husband, Harry and Betty Francis and husband, George.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at 6:00 pm at Howard-Carter Funeral Home with Pastor Joyce Maney officiating.  Visitation to follow services.  Burial will be Thursday, September 26, 2024 at 11:00 am at Westview Cemetery.
