Obituary
Vernon Thomas “Shorty” Jones was born on March 22, 1940 to the late Henry Thomas Jones and Mary Jane Stroud in Duplin County, NC. He passed away Monday, April 4, 2022 at UNC Lenoir Health Care.
Shorty was a retired US Marine Gunnery Sergeant with 20 years of service. He was also the owner of S J Well Drilling of Kinston, NC. Shorty was a very hard worker and well respected by his marine corp and business acquaintances.
In addition to his parents, Shorty was preceded in death by his grandson, Cody Jones and sister, Pat Jones. He leaves his memory to his sons, Tony Jones and Todd Jones and wife, Linda Jones; grandsons, Spencer Jones and wife, Allison and Garret Jones and wife, Rachel; great-grandson, Landon Garrett Jones and the mother of his children, Lana Todd Jones.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Howard-Carter Funeral Home with visitation to follow.
