Walter Donald Mills

Walter Donald Mills, 75, passed away on September 3, 2021. He was born in Pender County, NC to the late Elsie Carter and Phillip Ezra Mills. He was preceded in death by his brothers Ronnie Mills and Durrell Mills. Donald served in the United States Army as a Medical Corpsman from 1966 to 1968. He retired from the textile industry after 45 years of service. During this time, he also was a North Carolina Certified Plantsman. Donald and Faye owned and operated Mills Nursery for 34 years. Donald was a loving husband, and caring father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He attended First Pentecostal Holiness Church. He enjoyed surf fishing, growing and grafting Japanese Maples, landscape design, ECU football, and spending time with his family. Donald is survived by his wife of 52 years, Alice Faye Mills, son Geoffrey Andrew Mills and wife Andrea, son John Ashley Mills, granddaughter Peyton, brothers and sisters Harris, Amos, Phil, Patricia, Phyllis, and Linda, brothers and sisters in-law, and several nieces and nephews. Private graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Kinston, NC with Pastor Tommy Blanton officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice. Howard-Carter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
