William Stephen McMahon

William Stephen “Bill” McMahon, 84, of Kinston, North Carolina, passed away peacefully in his home on July 5, 2024, surrounded by many members of his immediate family.
 
Bill was born on January 1, 1940 to William and Pat McMahon in Wilmington, Delaware. He was born shortly after midnight and was the first baby born in the state of Delaware in the decade of the 1940s. Bill graduated from Salesianum High School in Wilmington, Delaware in 1957 and went on to study at the University of Delaware. After graduating with a degree in civil engineering, he began his long and successful career at DuPont that spanned across four decades.
 
In 1959, Bill met Lenora Elizabeth “Lennie” Kirk on a one eye open date, and Bill and Lennie were married on August 26, 1961. Bill and Lennie raised a wonderful family of 7 children in Kinston, NC. In 1994, he added a vacation home in Emerald Isle where they enjoyed spending thirty years with their children and grandchildren at the beach. Bill was a devoted family man who spent countless hours at swim meets, dance recitals, and baseball games cheering on his children. 
 
Bill also touched the lives of many children throughout Lenoir County as a recreational baseball and softball coach. He served on the Kinston Recreation Commission for several years and was instrumental in the building of the current Kinston Community Center. Bill was a faithful Catholic, a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church for more than 50 years, and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
 
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Pat McMahon, and his grandson Johnson McMahon. Bill is survived by his wife Lennie, their 7 children, 24 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. Bill's 7 children and their spouses include William McMahon Jr. and wife Anne of Homewood, AL; Tim McMahon and wife Caroline of Raleigh, NC; Patti Bradley and husband Greg of Chattanooga, TN; Kathy Pruthi and husband Raj of Cary, NC; Mary Beth Morgan and husband Doug Chafin of Dallas, NC; Jeff McMahon and wife Jennifer of Huntersville, NC; and Kevin McMahon and wife Lacy of Raleigh, NC.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 400 Academy Heights Road, Kinston, NC 28504, with Rosary following at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2024 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
