William "Al" Albert Carlin

William Albert “Al” Carlin, 65, of Kinston, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023 at UNC Lenoir Health Care. He was preceded in death by his father, James William Carlin, and nephew, Brandon Bodsford.

Al worked as an Education Development Assistant at Caswell Center for over 28 years before retirement. He enjoyed his job immensely and wanted to impact the world and change the way that others viewed individuals with special needs. He took great pride in his fellowship as a Mason at Pleasant Hill Lodge in Deep Run, where he was a Mason for more than 30 years. His wife, Nancy, was the love of his life. Together they enjoyed dancing, boating, and date nights. Al was a family man who went out of his way to always be thoughtful and kind. He will truly be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy J. Carlin, of the home; mother, Selma Emerson Carlin of King, NC; daughter, Julie Carlyle Burkett and husband, Jeff, of Kinston; grandchildren, Summer and Savannah Burkett; great-grandchild, Paisley Sage Jenkins; sister, Jane Bodsford and husband, Keith, of Denver, NC; brother, Jimmy Carlin and wife, Cindy, of King, NC; niece, Erin Bodsford; nephew, Drew Carlin, and many other family members and close friends.

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at Howard-Carter Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at Jackson Heights FWB Church with Pastor Allen Ham officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow the service at Westview Cemetery.
